Corum's World Series of Poker Bracelets

Corum, the luxury Swiss watch manufacturer, released one of the most refined and pricey bracelets in the World Series of Poker collection in 2007. It was introduced during the start of the World Series of Poker’s most renowned and richest event. Today, it is a vintage Corum watch, one worth collecting.

Collection Overview

Corum’s striking bracelet collection was the World Series of Poker’s official timepiece. They are available in four models that vary in weight from 84 grams to 136 grams of 18-carat gold. Corum’s Poker series bracelets also feature diamonds and other precious gemstones.

The watchmaker designed 55 of its bracelets as adornment pieces that you will feel comfortable wearing daily. According to the company, 53 of the pieces in the line are enhanced with 53 diamonds each.

The Corum Ladies Championship piece comes with two rubies, 87 blue sapphires and four black diamonds. To design the Main Event bracelet, Corum used its legacy of watchmaking experience and craftsmanship. The company’s design team formed a tonneau, or barrel, shaped encasement, one that features 136 grams of 18-carat white gold. They added 120 diamonds to the setting.

The bracelet made for the winner of the event’s $10,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold ‘Em World Championship contains one of the company’s best new timepiece-link designs. It also features a folding jeweler’s fastener.

A Desired Prize

In the gaming world, the World Series of Poker bracelet is one of the most desired prizes. It is the event’s gold medal. Those who wear it show that they have excelled at the game of poker. Corum’s bracelets are considered among the finest of the event’s history, and they are highly cherished by those who own them.

About Corum

Corum was founded in 1955 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Since its start, the company has been popular for its unique and state-of-the-art pieces.

The watchmaker is loyal to its collections. The Corum Admiral has been around for 60 years while the company’s Bridges collection has been available for more than 40 years.

Timepiece collectors who invest in a vintage Corum watch will have a piece worth passing down to future generations.

The Association Between Tudor and Rolex

Tudor and Rolex are two names in the watch industry synonymous with quality and precision. While the brands are known to be associated with one another, few people know the details of the brands’ relationship or whether Tudor is an imprint of Rolex.

This is important information if you’re a budding collector. If you buy a second hand Tudor watch, are you actually buying a Rolex product? If Tudor and Rolex are associated with each other, do different manufacture dates make pieces more or less valuable?

Same Founder, Different Vision

If you know the history of Rolex, then you know that one of the brand’s founders was Hans Wilsdorf, but you may not know that Wilsdorf also started Tudor. Together with his brother-in-law, Wilsdorf grew the Rolex brand into a global phenomenon. Today, Rolex stands as not only one of the world’s most sought-after watch manufacturers, but also as an example of how a brand can become the archetype for premium quality and craftsmanship.

While the origins of Tudor reach back to the name being trademarked in 1926 by Wilsdorf, the brand itself didn’t officially get off the ground until 1946 as montres TUDOR SA. According to Wilsdorf, the purpose of Tudor was to provide access to high-quality Swiss timepieces without the price tag associated with Rolex. Tudor watches used the same cases as Rolex, but the internal mechanisms were “off-the-shelf” in design.

Tudor Watches Today

Because of the close association with Rolex, Tudor watches today are considered functional, accessible and collectible. A second hand Tudor watch in great condition can bring in a lot of money depending on its rarity, and at the same time, a new Tudor watch is considered a fashion statement among modern watch collectors.

Although Rolex and Tudor are not the same brand, they both share a common origin and a dedication to Swiss precision in design and engineering. While Rolex is still known as the gold standard by which all other watches are measured, Tudor offers access to Rolex-like quality and craftsmanship at a lower price point.

Hublot’s Partnership with the NFL

LVMH-owned brand Hublot, makers of lauded Swiss timepieces, has entered into an agreement with the National Football League (NFL) to become the official watch manufacturer of the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are a storied NFL team, and although the team is known for its association with Dallas, the Cowboys’ headquarters is actually located in Frisco, TX.

Companies in the United States often vie for official designation as the supplier of products and services to major sports franchises, and the Hublot deal marks a major step into the American market for the brand. While Hublot is a well-known brand among watch collectors and connoisseurs, it is not as well-known to the general American public. Through Hublot’s sponsorship of a major NFL team, the brand stands to gain more name recognition and potentially grow demand for its products in the US market.

Not the First Time

This, however, is not Hublot’s first foray into sports sponsorship. Hublot was a big sponsor of the FIFA World Cup event in 2014, and the brand has worked with FIFA since 2007. Additionally, Hublot has sponsored various basketball teams.

Sponsorship deals generally restrain a brand from sponsoring competing teams or leagues on an exclusive basis, and sponsored athletes will usually be required to use or promote the products of sponsors. Each deal, however, is unique, and regulations prohibit certain activities within sponsorship deals.

Big Promotion for Branding in the UK and Beyond

Both of these partnerships are designed to increase brand awareness and raise the social profile of Hublot in the United Kingdom and the United States. Today, a Hublot wristwatch UK dealer is more likely to draw in potential buyers due to the high-profile FIFA sponsorship deal, and Americans are also likely to take note due to the Cowboys deal.

You’re also more likely to find Hublot wristwatch UK collectors searching for collectible and exclusive pieces due to these sponsorship deals. Many times, the time period prior to, during or directly after a sponsorship deal is a good time to look for collectibles. These times will either mean a larger demand for products, and therefore higher prices for buyers, or they will mean that items released during these times will be more likely to retain value in the years to come.

Do Your Homework

The best tip anyone can give you about buying online is to do your due diligence. Luxury watches are big investments. The last thing you want to do is make an uninformed decision. Even if you think you know about a brand and model, refresh your memory and learn everything you can.

Understanding what you're buying makes a world of difference. It helps you spot fakes, ensure authenticity, and make sure you're getting a solid deal. Every brand has its quirks, so familiarize yourself with every watch you're interested in buying.

Buy from a Specialty Store and Authorized Sellers

You can find watches all over the Internet. While there's nothing wrong with buying from private sellers and auction sites, you're likely to have more success at a store that specializes in selling luxury watches.

An online vintage watch store will have a more extensive collection. Furthermore, most will have all the necessary documents ready for review. They understand who they're selling to, and most watch stores go out of their way to make you feel confident with your purchase.

Are Luxury Watches a Good Investment?

In the last decade, the world has largely forgotten about analog technology. Most have moved onto digital smartwatches, virtual art, and cloud-based media. However, one type of traditional good continues to captivate: Luxury watches.

Despite the transition to digital technology, the market for high-end wristwatches prevails. So that begs the question: Are luxury watches a good investment?

Curating a Luxury Collection

Much like vintage cars, prized oil paintings, and rare vinyl records, luxury watches can fetch a pretty penny on the secondhand market. Well-made timepieces have an impeccable quality, are expertly made to run better than most, and are usually part of the legacy of a brand with decades or centuries of experience.

Many investors treat these accessories like fine art. They trade luxury watches, watch the value increase, and turn them over for profit. Some will build an elegant collection they keep for decades. Either way, these timepieces often retain their value and provide a handsome return.

What Watch Brands are Best for Investing?

As with any other investment, performing extensive research is a must. The luxury watch market is pretty saturated these days, so you must do your due diligence to ensure you're making a strategic investment.

Those who trade luxury watches regularly will tell you the same thing: Stick to the best-known brands. Some good examples include:

  • Rolex
  • Omega
  • TAG Heuer
  • Cartier
  • IWC
  • Panerai
  • Patek Philippe
  • Bvlgari
  • Audemars Piguet

These brands all have decades or centuries of acclaim. They're well-known for delivering premier products, and most produce their watches in Switzerland. You'll find that these brands often release limited quantities of their wristwatches, creating high value from the jump.

Factors That Influence Watch Value

In most cases, the value of your luxury watch will decline immediately after purchase before slowly appreciating over time. How much worth a timepiece holds or gains depends on many factors.

Typically, limited-edition and vintage models appreciate the most. Scarcity naturally drives up value, especially if the watch is from a legacy brand. Other potential variables include the condition of the accessory, the quality and source of the parts used, and the available features.

Investing in Luxury Watches

Luxury timepieces can be an excellent investment. Premium models can hold onto their value decades after the initial release. Do your research and learn as much as you can about a watch before diving in headfirst. Feel confident in your purchases, and you can build a high-value collection.

How to Service Your Rolex

Rolex watches are a massive investment built by expert watchmakers. They're not your average timepieces, requiring regular service by qualified professionals. But what exactly happens during the servicing process? Keep reading to learn more.

The Initial Inspection

Any official Rolex retailer and affiliate can begin the service process by receiving your piece and noting any requests you might have. Then, they send it to the watchmaker.

The watchmaker will perform a detailed inspection to estimate Rolex repairs and regular maintenance needs. After that, the movement, case, and bracelet go through different service paths.

Servicing the Movement

Service professionals dismantle the entire movement and carefully examine every component. Rolex replaces any parts that don't meet its strict quality standards.

Everything goes through an ultrasonic bath to remove impurities. Then, the movement is reassembled and lubricated for efficiency.

Perfecting the Finishes

Both the case and the bracelet undergo refinishing. Depending on the style of watch you have, it may go through a repolishing treatment or restoration process to achieve a beautiful satin finish.

After reassembling the case, watchmakers perform waterproof testing. They can address any issues that appear before reinstalling the movement.

Casing and Precision Testing

At this point, the case and the movement reunite. The casing process is complex, requiring rigorous technical and aesthetic inspections. Rolex spares no expense to ensure that every piece is perfect.

Watchmakers even perform chronometric precision tests. It's the same process Rolex uses when creating new watches. The test allows for minute adjustments, ensuring timekeeping accuracy. Even after securing the case's back, your timepiece goes through a 24-hour performance test.

Final Quality Control

The last steps of the process involve quality control. Watches are pressure-tested in water to ensure that every seal is watertight. Inspectors finish servicing by checking functionality and scrutinizing the aesthetics.

The Rolex repair and servicing process is rigorous, but that's the type of attention you need to ensure that your watch maintains its perfect quality. When you get your accessory back, it'll look as if it were brand new. Rolex recommends servicing every ten years or so, but you can certainly do it more frequently based on your watch's needs.
